We like to provide our customers with the opportunity to learn new kiln formed glass techniques whenever we can. It is our hope in future to have at least one visiting glass artist each year.
Renowned US glass artist Patty Gray was brought to Australia by Axess Glass Products in 2011 and 2012, and conducted her 3 day workshops in Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Sydney and our studio in Adelaide.
The 12 participants in each of Patty's workshops were treated to 3 very full days of new techniques and materials for kiln fired glass, including:
- use of metal inclusions such as copper sheet/mesh, gold and silver leaf,
- painting with frit and powder,
- use of mica powders,
- fused mosaics,
- glass combing techniques,
- introduction of Flexiglass,
- pattern bars, and,
- setting up a vitrigraph kiln
Incredibly, each participant was able to produce 5 or more projects over the 3 days.
Patty proved to be not only a wealth of information but also very personable and responsive to her students.
You can check out some of Patty's work and her teaching schedule on her website at http://www.pattygray.com/
Margaret Pickett, from Perth Art Glass, conducted 2 of her one day Fritscapes workshops at our studio in 2013.
Fritscapes are a technique of creating landscapes or other artworks by manipulating glass powders and frit between two sheets of clear glass. The works are then fused together to become permanent.
All who attended the workshop found the technique challenging and enjoyable.
Estelle conducted a 2 day workshop demonstrating Pate' de Verre techniques including open mold making, inclusions and frit wafers.
Estelle is a Perth, Western Australian based Visual Artist, currently sharing her time in United Kingdom. Her work can be seen in private collections in Australia, USA, Malaysian, Holland, UAE, Japan, Singapore and England. Estelle has been represented in many group shows both in Australia, United Kingdom, Japan, and Malaysia.
We hope Estelle may return in 2109 to conduct another workshop.
